Mob torches place of worship, prohibitory orders imposed

A place of worship was vandalised and torched by a mob in Imphal East district today which led to the authorities clamping prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC.

Besides vandalising and torching the place of worship at Wangkhei, known as Panthou Shanglen, the mob also set on fire 13 vehicles, following a dispute between its authority and locals, police said.

The officer in charge of Porompat police station and three persons, including a child were injured in the incident, police said.

A fire brigade official told PTI it took about two hours to control the fire but the damage could not be calculated immediately.
 

Prohibitory orders under 144 CrPC was imposed in the area by the district magistrate of Imphal East after the incident.
