An agitating mob today set on fire a police outpost and halted traffic by digging up roads while protesting against the death of a mother-son duo in a hit-and-run case in South 24 Parganas district here.
The protesters withdrew the agitation after the arrest of SUV driver Kalu Seikh who was involved in the Monday's mishap, a senior police officer said.
A couple of youths, detained for alleged involvement in the agitation, were released without being charged, he said.

Earlier in the day, the mob torched a police outpost at Rasokunjo area of Bishnupur after threatening policemen to leave the outpost. They also prevented vehicles and fire brigade from approaching the area by digging up roads and putting up tree logs, the officer said.
A woman and her son, 11, were killed and six school children injured after being hit by the SUV near Rashakunja area under the jurisdiction of Bishnupur police station.
The over-speeding SUV coming from Bankrahat rammed into the group of students, killing the mother-son duo.
The students of 'Rashakunja High School for Boys and Girls' were out of their respective school premises as classes were over for the day, the police said.
Those injured were all within the age group of 10 to 15 years.
