Mob torches truck after student's death

A mob today set a truck on fire after a tenth standard girl student was crushed to death while going to school at Ghagra block in Gumla district, police said.

Mamata Kindo, a student of Nawdiha High School, was on her way to school from her native village Koara when a speeding truck coming from behind crushed her, a police officer said.

The local residents immediately put up a road blockade on Ghagra-Lohardaga Road for about three hours disrupting the road traffic badly.

When the news about the incident reached the school premises, the students chased the truck and set it on fire near Sikwar Hills, the officer said adding that the Circle Officer and the Officer-in-charge of the concerned police station pursued the squatters to withdraw the agitation and handed over Rs.10,000 to the victim's family.
 

Meanwhile, police arrested the truck driver Shivnath Oraon, a resident under Kairo police station of Lohardaga district.
