Mob tries to attack senior NCB official

A mob of around 50 people tried to attack a senior Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) official at Arambol, 40 kms from here this evening, forcing him to fire in the air in self defence.

Superintendent of Police of NCB Jitendra Ranjan had gone to interrogate a suspect at Arambol along with his staff and few policemen when was assaulted by the mob, said a police official.

"As per the complaint filed with Pernem police, SP NCB had gone there to interrogate a person in a shack at Arambol when the incident happened," Superintendent of Police (North) Chandana Chaudhury told reporters here.
 

Ranjan was accompanied by his own staff and four police constables including a lady constable when the incident happened, she said, adding, the mob started pelting stones on them following which he fired one round in the air with his service pistol.

A senior police official said that Pernem police have booked offence against the shack owner and several others while arrests are likely to happen tonight.
