Mobile app-based trading grows over 2-fold at bourses

The turnover of trades on BSE and NSE through smart phones increased to Rs 90,597.98 crore

The phenomenal rise in the number of smartphone users in the country has led to a change in the equity trading pattern, with bourses like BSE and NSE witnessing a combined turnover of Rs 90,600 crore in mobile app-based trade so far this fiscal.

The turnover of trades on BSE and NSE through smart phones increased from Rs 38,523.54 crore during 2013-14 to Rs 90,597.98 crore in the current finacial year 2014-15 (April-February) period, Minister of State for Finance Jayant Sinha said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.

In the 2012-13, turnover on account of trades undertaken using smartphones stood at Rs 19,871.20 crore.
 
The exchanges have taken several steps for increasing internet and mobile participation over the years, such as developing an application for brokers who can use this platform to register their customers to buy and sell.

The mobile application is compatible with almost all handsets and operating systems such as android phones, tablets, iPhones and iPads.
