The gang had arrived in Delhi only ten days ago to commit a series of burglaries and had looted a shop in Yusuf Sarai on September 21, a senior police official said today.
"During inspection of the crime scene, a mobile phone was found on the spot, which on verification was neither found to belong to the owner nor to his employees.
"The number of the mobile belonged to Bihar Circle and had got some missed calls and communications made during the period when the crime took place," Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), said.
Police came to know that the gang was staying in Zamrudpur and operated early in the morning. They had plans to return to Bihar after the thefts, she said.
Rameshwar Mehto, Mohammad Israfil, Bignesh Jaswal, Pramod Shah, Vijay Kumar, Jafar Ansari, Sriram Shah, Mumtaj Alam, Amal Mathur and Ranjit Kumar were arrested when they came out in small groups for committing crimes, Sharma said.
"They have came to Delhi about 10 days ago and have taken two rooms on rent showing themselves as workers in embroidery workshops," she said.
"The kingpins of the gang are Uppender Tadi, Santosh and Israfil and they used to rope in other members for each visit to a city under the pretext of giving them good returns in short period," she said, adding that they carry SIM Cards of Bihar circle because it is difficult to trace them when they are in another city.
