At least 33 mobile phones worth nearly Rs 5.63 lakh were stolen today morning from a showroom here in the city, police said.

The theft occurred at a showroom on Rawatbhatta road of the city, Circle In-charge (CI) of Gumanpura police station, Anand Yadav said.

The thieves likely barged into the showroom, belonging to China-based mobile phone manufacturer Oppo, by pulling up the shutter during the early hours of the day, the CI said.

The CCTV cameras of the showroom were not working, so footage from cameras from surrounding stores were being looked into, Yadav said, adding that a case was registered against unidentified thieves and further investigation was underway.

The store manager reached the spot this morning to find the shutter pulled open and informed the police, Yadav said.

At least 33 mobile handsets, worth nearly Rs 5.63 lakh in the market, were stolen, Iqubal Khan, assistant manager of the showroom, said.
