The Civil Aviation Ministry today said it received a request from the Home Ministry in September 2014 to allow armed security personnel to accompany Home Minister Rajnath Singh on domestic flights and has given its feedback in this regard.

"A request to allow carriage of weapons by the security staff accompanying the Home Minister during journey on domestic flights was received in September 2014," Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha informed Lok Sabha.

The request was examined after taking into account the advice of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the "views of the Ministry of Civil Aviation were communicated to the Ministry of Home Affairs", he said without elaborating.

The minister said sky marshals are deployed on certain identified routes but did not provide details citing security implications.
