A mock drill was today conducted at the international airport here to check efficacy of the emergency response plan to cope with an aircraft emergency.

The four-hour-long exercise - 'Operation Black Panther' - was held at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) from 10 AM onwards, a release said.

The full-scale aerodrome emergency exercise was conducted jointly with Hong-Kong based Cathay Pacific airline. A simulated aircraft disaster was enacted as a part of the drill, it said.

The exercise helped in assessing and evaluating the preparedness of all response teams, including CSIA, which is involved in handling aircraft emergency situations, it said.

Around 10 major hospitals, 16 ambulance services and government agencies such as Customs, CISF, police and State Disaster Management Cell participated in the drill.
