The Model Code of Conduct, which was enforced on September 12 with the announcement of Assembly polls in Haryana by the Election Commission, was today lifted with immediate effect on completion of the poll process.

"The Election Commission has stated that now that the declaration of results in respect of Haryana Legislative Assembly has been completed and the 'Due Constitution' notification has been issued, the Model Code of Conduct has ceased to be in operation with immediate effect," an official spokesman said.

BJP emerged gained majority on its own for the first time in the history of the state when counting of votes for the 90 seats was held on October 19.

The 47-member BJP Legislature Party has elected first-time MLA and staunch former RSS worker Manohar Lal Khattar as its leader, paving the way for for him to become the chief minister. Khattar will take oath at Panchkula near here on Sunday.
