Model code violations would be seriously dealt with: EC

In view of the ongoing assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, the Election Commission today said the cases of violation of the Model Code of Conduct in any form would be seriously dealt with.

"Since the elections were declared, we received many complaints regarding violations of code of conduct and action was taken against those who were found guilty," Chief Electoral Officer J&K Umang Narula told reporters after inaugurating the "Expenditure Monitoring Centre" in Jammu today.

"In one case we confiscated the publicity material of a candidate and now we have opened this Centre to keep a track on the expenditure by the nominees and political parties. The EC would seriously deal with any violation of model code," Narula said.
 

The Expenditure Monitoring Centre inaugurated today would monitor the expenditure incurred by various candidates and political parties during the assembly elections for 11 assembly constituencies of Jammu district.

The CEO said that 100 official have been posted in the Centre to keep a track of the expenditure incurred by the candidates and the political parties in the polls.

"One team each for every assembly constituency has been placed here. The teams are equipped with gadgets for viewing videos recorded from the field and computers for calculation and accounting of each and every candidate without any delay," the CEO said.

On the occasion, the CEO also released various promotional awareness posters and pamphlets to be used in "Wake Up Jammu Campaign" under the SVEEP programme of the EC.
