Moderate quake shakes Kashmir Valley, sparks panic

The tremor was felt at 7.30 pm in most parts of Kashmir, triggering panic among the residents who rushed out of their homes, as it brought back the memories of October 2005 earthquake, officials said.

An official of the Meteorological Department said the epicentre of the earthquake was in Hindukush mountain range in Afghanistan.

Officials of the disaster management cell said so far there were no reports of any damage or casualty due to the tremor.

Kashmir, which is located in highly earthquake-prone siesmic Zone V, had experienced a 7.4 magnitude earthquake on October 8, 2005, flattening many parts along the Line of COntrol in Jammu and Kashmir as well as Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

 

While 1300 persons were killed in Kashmir, thousands more were killed in PoK.
