"Sad to know about the demise of Sudarshanji. He was blessed with a sharp mind, humorous nature and always known for his simple and disciplined life," Modi wrote on Twitter.
"I respectfully pay homage to Sudarshanji, who had dedicated his life towards rural development, among other related issues," Modi told reporters.
The former RSS supremo K S Sudarshan, today passed away in Raipur after suffering a heart attack. Born on 18 June, 1931 in Raipur, Sudarshan, 81 is survived by a brother and sister.
"I pray to lord to grant us strength to follow the path shown by him and work towards popularising the values inherited from him," Modi said.
