Congress today hit out at the Narendra Modi government, saying it is celebrating its two years in office at a time when there is a severe drought situation in the country.

"There is a severe drought situation in the country, despite this the Modi government is celebrating," leader of Congress in Lok Sabha M Mallikarjun Kharge said here.

"Neither we are able to understand nor the citizens of this country have been able to understand that what work has been done (in the last two years by the NDA government). What is their achievement? We want to ask what have you given to farmers, to youths, to women and Dalits," he said.

Kharge said a large part of the country is facing drought but nothing much has been done by the government to tackle the situation.

Dubbing Modi as an "NRI Prime Minister", the MP from Kalaburgi said, "No Indian Prime Minister has ever undertaken so many foreign trips as compared to Modi in the last two years, but the country gained nothing."

"He (Modi) is more concerned about foreign trips rather than resolving the problems of the country," Kharge alleged.

Referring to Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh, Kharge said "Modi does not believe in democracy".

On the promises made by the Prime Minister before the 2014 elections, Kharge said Modi is "misleading" the people.
