Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today accused the Modi government at the Centre of distracting people from issues affecting them by making AgustaWestland chopper deal a case of political vendetta.
Gogoi in a statement here demanded that the Centre order a Supreme Court-monitored inquiry into the chopper deal and "let the country know the truth associated with the issue".
He said the Centre in order to hide its failure and to divert public attention from the basic issues, was blowing the AgustaWestland chopper deal into a huge issue.

"UPA Government when it was in power had black listed the company and initiated an exhaustive probe to unearth the truth behind the issue," he said.
The Narendra Modi government is, however, making a "bizarre attempt" to divert public attention from its failures like checking price rise, unemployment, drought and other agrarian crisis that has gripped the country.
The NDA government, he said, seems to be leading the people of the country to a quagmire in the chopper deal and is misleading the nation instead of finding the real culprit.
The Modi government instead of fulfilling its "much publicised rhetoric" of acche din is now crushing democracy by imposing President's Rule and toppling democratically elected governments in Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh, Gogoi added.
