Congress today said the performance of Narendra Modi government has been very disappointing and retrogressive and it has derailed country's economy.

"The performance of Modi government has been very disappointing and retrogressive which had derailed the economy of the country," Congress spokesperson Rita Bahuguna Joshi told reporters here.

She said the NDA government was of a few chosen industrialists.

"It has facilitated a coal deal to an industrialist in Australia. Modi government has also made available a huge loan to him for this project from a bank," alleged Joshi, the former Uttar Pradesh Congress chief.

Joshi said medium and small scale industries have taken a beating and their production has slumped by 14 per cent while the cement industry production has come down by 4 per cent in last one year.

Bahugana said the country needs an economy based on labour for development whereas the economy of NDA government was investment based.

She said during Lok Sabha campaigning, Modi had promised 'achhe din' (better days), bringing black money stashed abroad and to check price rise of essential commodities in 100 days after coming to power but this has not happened and in fact the country is passing through a very bad time.
