Prime Minister Narendra Modi today greeted the people of Myanmar on their Independence Day and hoped for stronger ties between the two nations in future.

"On their Independence Day, my good wishes to people of Myanmar. We are confident of even stronger India-Myanmar ties in the years to come," the Prime Minister said.

Myanmar celebrates January 4 as its Independence Day as it was on this day that it was liberated from Britain in 1948. It was then named Burma.
