Rajya Sabha MP Piramal Nathwani has praised Ministry of External Affairs' (MEA) initiative to get 'Modi Kurta' stitched for global leaders attending the 3rd India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS) in New Delhi and said the step will boost sale of Khadi.

Heads of all 54 African countries will participate in the Summit to be held in Delhi from October 26-29.

Nathwani informed that MEA has written to the Consulate offices of different African countries and sought measurements of their respective nation heads for getting traditional Indian attire 'Kurta-pyjama' and 'Modi Kurta' stitched for them.

"It will promote Khadi in African countries. Khadi is getting wide acceptance in several countries like USA, US, Australia. Khadi is not just cloth, it is an ideology. This will definitely boost the sale of khadi," Nathwani told PTI.

Meanwhile, in a bid to promote khadi on Mahatma Gandhi's 146th birth anniversary, the state government has launched a drive to sell trademark 'Modi kurtas and jackets' among other Khadi ensembles.
