Prime Minister Narendra Modi today lauded 12-year-old Maryam Asif Siddiqui of Mumbai, who had won a contest on the Gita, saying her interest in various religions is an inspiration for all Indians.

Siddiqui met Modi and donated Rs 11,000 each to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund and Swachhta Abhiyan, an official statement said.

"Met my young friend Maryam Asif Siddiqui... Maryam's interest in various religions is an inspiration to all Indians," Modi said on Twitter.

She had recently won the Bhagavad Gita Champion League, organised by International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKON).

Congratulating Siddiqui for her feat, Modi gifted her five books on different religions.

She was accompanied by her parents, Asif Naseem Siddiqui and Farhan Asif Siddiqui.
