PM Modi on two-day Sikkim visit

PM Narendra Modi is expected to unveil his strategy for science and technology development for the decade ahead and also outline steps to increase spending on science to 2% of the GDP at the Indian Science Congress, which gets under way in Mysuru

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive here this afternoon to declare Sikkim as the first organic state of the country.

Modi will be welcomed by Governor Srinivas Patil and Chief Minister Pawan Chamling who will be accompanied by Cabinet ministers and heads of all state government departments, a state official said.

His entourage will then proceeded to 'Chintan Bhawan' where he will officially announce the declaration at the National Conference on 'Sustainable Agriculture & Farmers Welfare' that was yesterday inaugurated by Radha Mohan Singh, the Union Minister Of Agriculture and Family Welfare.

Modi's first day visit will conclude after a musical and cultural extravaganza to be held at Manan Kendra here at Development area later in the evening.
 
He is scheduled to visit the horticulture and flower festival at Ridge Park and the Organic Fair at Saramsagardens tomorrow.
