Modi's I Day speech evokes interest from Singaporean leaders

Top Singaporean leaders today expressed their "surprise and interest" over the extempore speech made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the occasion of India's Independence Day.

This was conveyed to visiting External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj who had a series of meetings with top leadership here including Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, officials said.

Lee, who is going to make a speech tomorrow in three languages at Singapore's National Day rally, told Swaraj that it was quite interesting to watch Modi make an extempore speech on such an important and significant occasion, they said.

Lee is scheduled to make a speech in three languages tomorrow, officials said.
