Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said "the magic" of Narendra Modi will not work here as people believe in secularism only.

"Their political philosophy is based on religion. On the other hand, Assam is a land of saints like Sankardeva, Madhabdeva and Ajan Fakir, who preached real secularism and people have been practising this irrespective of caste, creed and religion for years," Gogoi said.

Addressing a gathering here on the occasion of 1942 Martyrs' programme, the Chief Minister said people are always influenced by patriots and they will never give ear to the sayings of narrow-minded politicians like the BJP leaders.

He claimed that BJP's strategy will not work in the forthcoming 2014 Lok Sabha elections in the state "as people of the state believe that apart from the Congress-led government, nobody can give them anything in the name development".

Gogoi said the state government is planning to construct another bridge over the Brahmaputra from Gohpur Balijan to Bokakhat, connecting National Highway 37.

"The work will start very soon. This will solve a major problem of communication of the people living on the north bank," he added.
