Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Arjun Modhwadia today put Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the dock by asking him to explain his frequent air travels ahead of Lok Sabha elections.

Modhwadia expressed his anger about reports which claimed that former Mizoram governor Kamala Beniwal spent government money on flights for her personal visits to Jaipur when she was the Governor of Gujarat.

"When he was Gujarat CM, Narendra Modi travelled by air 56 times on government expense before Lok Sabha elections. Now, BJP should repay that money to the government treasury and Modi should explain such serious allegations about him," Modhwadia said in a press release today.

The GPCC chief defended the former governor by claiming that allegations related to land allotment in Jaipur against her was very old.

"Those allegations are 25 years old. After that, the BJP government came into power twice in Rajasthan and did not found any substance during their investigations. Thus, it is sad that Kamala was sacked in an unconstitutional manner due to pure vendetta," Modhwadia said.

Congress leader also alleged that Modi never liked people with an opinion which differed from his ideas.

"Be it officers or leaders, Modi has been vindictive against everyone who tells truth. Everyone is punished for expressing their own view. Modi is known to take action against such people. The whole country has seen how he treated BJP leaders like Lal Krishna Advani, Jaswant Singh and Keshubhai Patel," Modhwadia said.
