Union Minister Maneka Gandhi today said that Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre has taken several steps for the upliftment of Dalits, farmers, labourers and downtrodden people by launching various development schemes for them in the last one year of its rule.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has initiated commendable work to uplift Dalits, farmers, and people from economically poor strata of the society while launching various developmental schemes for them," Gandhi said.

The Union Minister for Women and Child Development was in the Indo-Pak bordering district of Tarn Taran, to address party workers' meeting.

Citing example of Jan Dhan Yojana, she said due to the efforts of Modi, around 15 crore people in the country succeeded in getting their accounts opened in banks.

The Union Minister said that Modi government was initiating adequate steps to root out corruption and bring back black money stashed in foreign nations back to India.

During the one year rule of Modi government, inflation has dipped and the nation's GDP rate has gone up, she claimed.

Gandhi expressed concern over around four lakh children going missing at various places every year, and said the Centre will paste posters in trains containing details of missing children along with their photographs and phone numbers to trace them.
