Moga incident: ADGP deposes before SC Commission

A top Punjab police officer "monitoring" the Moga molestation incident, today deposed before State SC commission and submitted status report in the case.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota submitted the status report of the Moga incident to commission chairman Rajesh Bagha.

Bagha said that the incident was "unfortunate" and instructed Punjab police to immediately provide protection cover to the victim's family.

Police is probing all possible angles of this incident and Inspector Genarl of Police (IGP) Gurpreet Kaur Deo has been handed over the probe into this matter, Sahota said.

He said that the police has already apprehended the four culprits and would provide every help to the victim's family in the interest of justice.
 

Bagha expressed "satisfaction" over the police action till date in this regard, a statement quoting the commission head said.

He said that the SC Commission has also recommended the State Government to provide grant of Rs 5 lakh and Rs 1.20 lakh as per SC Act to the victim's family.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal met the family and also visited the hospital in Moga where the victim's mother is being treated.

"Sukhbir enquired about the health of victim's mother admitted in civil hospital at Moga," officials said.

He also had confabulations with the girl's father Sukhdev Singh and expressed heard felt sympathy with the bereaved family.

Sukhbir, who also holds the home portfolio, assured justice to the family.

Notably, Badal family is owners of the Orbit bus company.

"Whatever had happened was not good and it was the biggest sin," Sukhbir said.

He also assured the family that if needed the company as well as the government would be ready for further financial help to the family.

A woman and her teen-aged daughter were allegedly molested and thrown off a running bus, leaving the girl dead and mother seriously wounded, near Gill village on Moga-Kotkapura road, and kicking up a political storm on April 30.
