Mohali to have solid waste management project

The state government has sought expression of interests for first ever state level project in the country, an official spokesman said today.

The GMADA cluster would include Municipal Corporation of SAS Nagar, Zirakpur, Municipal Council, Banur, Municipal Council, Dera Bassi, Municipal Council Rajpura and Municipal Council, Ropar and it was estimated that 328 tonnes per day Solid Waste would be generated in 18 urban local bodies falling in GMADA cluster.

He said that as per the estimated 141 cities of Punjab produces nearly 5000 tonnes solid waste per day that would be utilised for producing power, compost or other useful products.

 

He said once it became operational, all urban areas would automatically be garbage free bringing a significant improvement in the overall environment of the state.

Punjab is the first state that has initiated state level Municipal Solid Waste Management Project to cover all 141 Urban Local Bodies for developing Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management project on Public Private Partnership.
