Mohite-Patil's nomination is to fill in the vacancy created by the resignation of Subhash Bhoir early this year. Bhoir quit the NCP and his legislative council seat to join the Shiv Sena.
Mohite-Patil, a prominent sugar baron from western Maharashtra, was defeated from the Pandharpur constituency in the 2009 Assembly elections. His son Ranjitsinh Mohite Patil's Rajya Sabha tenure ended last month.
