The man, who allegedly molested a woman in an empty ladies compartment in a Howrah-bound train forcing her to jump outside, was arrested from neighbouring Hooghly district.

Superintendent of Railway Police, Howrah, Milan Kanti Das said Debshankar Shaw, father of six daughters, was arrested last night from Makhla locality of Uttarpara.

He was charged with molestation and snatching.

A 25-year-old woman had jumped off from the Howrah-New Delhi Janata Express near Belur station in the district to save her honour from the molester and got injured on Sunday evening.

The rail police yesterday released a sketch of the accused.

The woman's mobile phone allegedly snatched by Shaw, however, could not be found as he had sold it, Das said, adding efforts were on to find out its buyer.
