Mongya tribals accuse policemen of assaulting minor

The police, however, refuted the allegations and termed it as an effort by some tribals to "shield persons involved in unlawful activities."

Demanding compensation and action against the alleged policemen, the locals today placed the infant's body outside the SP Kota (Rural) office and held a protest there.

"A raid was conducted in search of some thieves in Kaithoon area yesterday morning and the baby died today. There were no injury marks on the child's body and the locals are trying to build pressure on police through this issue," a senior police officer said.

"The body was examined by doctors and it was found that the death had no connection with the raid. Efforts are being made to solve the matter," he said.
