The MeT office today said monsoon has withdrawn from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
Monsoon has withdrawn from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh and there was hardly any more rainfall to expect in the coming days, especially in October and November, and winds will now change direction leading to gradual fall in temperatures, Chandigarh MeT director Surender Paul said here.
With the fall in day and night temperatures, days would become sunny and pleasant, he said adding, winds would continue to blow northerly turning the air dry.
About the monsoons this year in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, Paul said as predicted by Indian Meteorological Department, monsoons this year have been marginally below normal in Haryana, but normal in Punjab and Chandigarh.
Normal rainfall for Chandigarh is 792.5 mm whereas it received 753.1 mm till September 19.
For Punjab, normal monsoon rainfall is 460 mm, whereas till September 19, the state received 468 mm of rains.
In Punjab, stations with deficit rainfall included Barnala, Hoshiarpur, Mansa, Patiala and Sangrur.
In Haryana, normal rainfall is 440 mm whereas it has rained 320 mm till September 19. With this, Haryana has received 27 per cent deficit rainfall.
Ambala, Faridabad, Karnal, Jind and Yamunanagar are the only stations where it rained from normal to excess. All other stations recorded deficit rainfall, Paul said.
Data from Chandigarh MeT department revealed, the union territory received maximum rainfall of 835 mm from June till September 19. In Haryana, Ambala recorded 794 mm of rains, while Karnal received 647.3 mm, Hisar 507.4 mm and Narnaul 507 mm of rains.
Bhiwani in Haryana recorded the lowest rainfall of 272.6 mm during the monsoons.
In Punjab, Amritsar received 759.3 mm and Ludhiana 729.7 mm of rains.
Till September 25, the MeT department has given a forecast of partly cloudy sky with isolated thunderclouds developing during the next 24 hrs.
