The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), probing the alleged hacking of UPPCL online billing system, today said it has arrested a few persons in connection with the matter and more arrests are likely to be made soon.

"We are probing the matter on the basis of six FIRs registered in Bulandshahr, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh and Varanasi. Some arrests have been made and STF along with a Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited team is going through a huge volume of documents," IG (STF) Sujeet Pandey told reporters.

He said that more arrests are likely to be made soon and "as of now we are collecting evidence".

The STF had recently arrested some persons who were involved in hacking of UPPCL's billing system and reducing bills of consumers, causing losses to the Corporation.

Those arrested were believed to be hand in gloves with the departmental staff in the multi-crore fraud, sources in the STF had said.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said strict action would be taken against those found guilty in the alleged fraud.

"We will initiate strict action against officials guilty in the matter. It is being probed by the Special Task Force (STF)," Yadav said here.
