Vice President Hamid Ansari has called for more action to get the Indian society rid of its patriarchal practices.

Ansari made the remarks while launching a book 'Awaken the Magic' at his residence on the occasion of International Women's Day yesterday.

"There is a lot more work to be done here," he said while speaking on challenging the patriarchal mindset.

Vice President's wife Salma Ansari, who has written the book's foreword and has been instrumental in its making, was also present on the occasion.

She said that when it comes to the empowerment of Indian women, the time for talk was over, and "it is now time for action".

Bloomsbury India and an organisation Global Women's Group jointly launched the book, describing it as a celebration of women "of those who have loved, lived, fought, inspired, have been broken - only to rise stronger".

The vice president spoke about the need for the book to be translated in as many Indian languages as possible, "so that we carry these voices and make a meaningful impact at the grassroots level".
