With the slogan 'arise and resist atrocities on women and discrimination', the conference holds relevance in the present context as there are increasing incidents of atrocities on women being reported from across the country, All India Mahila Samskarika Sanghatana state president Lalitha Mathew said.

The three-day conference will be inaugurated by former Supreme Court Chief Justice M N Venkatachaliah and it would be president over by AIMSS national president Chhaya Mukherjee.

Lalitha said sexual assault on women had grown alarmingly in the country and the safety of girl child had become a major concern.

AIMSS would bring together leading figures among women engaged in democratic mass movements for a dignified humanly existence, she said.

Besides rallying conscious sections of society, including 'right-thinking men' deeply concerned about the present condition of women, the conference aims at preparing women to shoulder new challenges and responsibilities in the present age, she said.

Former Supreme Court Judge V R Krishna Iyer is the chairman of the reception committee formed for the conclave.
