The inaugural Junior Coastal Multi Class Sailing Regatta will held at Marve Beach here from Monday to May 2.
This is being held jointly by the Corps of Engineers Sailing Club and National Optimist Association of India under the aegis of Yachting Association of India, a media release said on Sunday.
The event gains special significance as it is a multi class sailing ranking event for selection of sailors to represent the country in international competitions, the release stated.
The championship saw a good response with more than 150 entries from all over India.
The regatta will be conducted as a series of 12 races over a period of five days with seven different classes of boats competing for the coveted top three positions in each class of the event.
The competition is in synchronisation with "Khelo India" initiative and will also spread the message of Clean and Green Ocean as the sport encompasses use of only natural forces to complete the course, the release said.

Practice rounds were conducted Sunday to familiarise the participants with the local sea conditions at Marve.
The sailors braved heavy winds ranging from 10 to 12 knots and got acclimatised with the conditions ahead of the championship, it said.
