More than 2,500 saltpan workers and their leaders in the district today joined BJP claiming they were unhappy with the alleged false promises of Rahul Gandhi during his recent visit to Kharaghoda, a party official said.

These salt pan workers and leaders belong to various salt producing co-operative societies and trusts based in Surendranagar district.

Gujarat BJP spokesperson I K Jadeja claimed that Rahul Gandhi failed to give any satisfactory answers to salt pan workers during his recent visit.

"These questions varied from the central government's decision to close down Dhrangadhra-Kuda broadgauge railway to non-payment of salt-cess money to beneficiaries since the last seven to eight years," he said in a statement.

The BJP claimed that Rahul could not answer these questions and only gave false promises during his interaction with workers.

"Tired of such apathy towards them by the Congress for 10 years, these workers and their leaders joined the BJP today at its Surendranagar office" Jadeja said in the statement.
