More than 400 political workers belonging to the Gujjar and Pahari communities today joined opposition Peoples Democratic Party here, a spokesman of the party said.
Under the leadership of veteran Gujjar leaders Choudry Salam-u-Din and Choudry Siraj-u-Din, the workers were welcomed in the party by patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed at his Gupkar residence here, the spokesman said.
Prominent among those who joined the party were Member of the Pahari Board Noor Mohammad Shah, social worker Fayaz Ahmad, block president Congress from Kupwara Mohammad Yaseen Lone and his deputy Haji Mohammd Akber.
