A move is afoot to raise the representation of women and tribal youths in the central paramilitary forces, Union Minister of State for Home R P N Singh said here today.

"A special drive is on to recruit more women and tribal youths in the central paramilitary forces. The drive has evoked enthusiastic response," Singh said while addressing a function organised on the occasion of 21st anniversary of the Rapid Action Force (RAF).

He also said that there was a proposal to raise 10 new battalions of the RAF, which is a specialised wing of the Central Reserve Police Force and offers crucial service during communal riots.

Later, the Director General of the CRPF Dilip Trivedi told reporters,"we are setting up a separate engineering department to meet our construction requirements".

"The move has been necessitated by poor performance of construction agencies which had resulted in non-utilisation of funds to the tune of Rs 700 crore in the last financial year," he added.
