A 35-year-old man, who is among the 10 most wanted criminals of the national capital, was arrested from Bihar, police said today.
Ali Sher, who carries a reward of Rs 50,000, was apprehended from Darbhanga on Friday on a tip-off, DCP (North- West) P Karunakaran said.
Sher is a native of Bihar and was allegedly involved in a number of criminal cases, including murder and extortion, in Delhi and was declared a proclaimed offender.
"He was secretly living in his native place Darbangha and changing his hideouts and mobile numbers frequently. Three raids were conducted in the past one-and-half year by the Operation Cell of North-West District but every time he managed to escape," Karunakaran said.
Sher had an extensive network in the area and even at the slightest hint of police, he used to sneak into Nepal to evade arrest, police said.
He was brought to Delhi after securing transit remand for three days from ACJM court of Benipur and Darbangha, they said.
Sher, whose father was running a steel polish business, went to jail for the first time in 1997 in a murder case and from jail itself he completed class 12 from IGNOU in 1999.
After getting bail in 1999, he again went to jail for second time in 2001, in another murder. "He has committed a series of murder, dacoity, extortion and robberies in various parts of Delhi and has a total of 23 cases registered against him," Karunakaran said.
