Mother among 4 held for selling her newborn male baby

: Four persons, including the mother of a one month old male baby were arrested at a village in the district today for reportedly selling the child, police said.

The 20-year-old woman,two other ladies and the buyer were nabbed at at Chekkumedu,about 38 from here.

Police said the woman had delivered the baby on April 23 at Pennagaram Government hospital. She was reportedly not interested in looking after it and so wanted to abandoned it.

On coming to know of it, the two women approached her to sell the child to a couple who did not have any children. They persuaded her to hand over the baby at a pre arranged spot to a 38-year-old man on April 30 for which he gave her Rs 50,000.
 

Acting on a tip off, Superintendent of Police Asra Garg ordered a team to investigate and the four were arrested, today, police said.

All of them were produced before a magistrate court at Pennagaram and remanded to 15 days judicial custody.
