A mother-daughter duo allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a speeding train near Mohkampur railway crossing here, police said today.
Badly mutilated bodies of the two women were seen lying on the tracks near the crossing last night by passersby who reported the matter to the police, they said.
The bodies have been identified as those of 62-year-old Naseema Khatun and her 32-year-old daughter Nazeema.
Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide as the two women who stayed in Chandralok colony near Rajpur road in the city left home telling their family members that they were going to the market but reached Mohkampur railway crossing, police sources said.
The family members of the deceased women are being questioned but the reason behind their taking the extreme step is still not known, police added.
