"A case of murder has also been filed with Shakarpur police station. The bodies have been shifted for post-mortem at Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Ajay Kumar.

Police are investigating the case from all angles as the assailant gained friendly entry into the house and the television and air-conditioner were also found switched on when the police team reached the spot.

"It could be an armed robbery as the house has been ransacked. However, it could also be over some personal enmity as we have not found any evidence of forced entry into the house," said a police official.

According to their nighbours, Rampati and Rajni rarely left home and were often visited by their family members. They had been living in the house for the past nine years.
