Mother of tortured boy arrested; sent to judicial custody

The mother of a nine-year-old boy allegedly subjected to torture by her and her husband at Adimali in Idukki district was today arrested, police said.

The woman was produced before Devikulam Munsiff court judge Reshmi B Chittoor who remanded her to 14-days judicial custody.

Police have booked the woman and her husband, suspected to be drug addicts, under relevant sections of Juvenile Justice Act and 326(b) of IPC, punishment for attempted act of afflicting burn injuries, police said.

The father of the boy is already in judicial custody in connection with another case.

The court allowed the woman to take her three-month-old girl child along with her to the women's jail in Thrissur, where she would be lodged, police said.
 

Another minor child of the woman has been lodged in a government-run shelter home in Cheruthoni in Idukki district.

The boy subjected to brutal torture for nearly a week in their house was rescued by some locals three days ago and had been admitted to Kalamassery Medical College Hospital.

The condition of the boy was improving, doctors said.

According to the statement given by the boy to police, his father had hit him with an iron rod while his mother attacked him with a coconut. The father had also poured hot water on him, police said.

Initially, the boy had told the police that he was attacked by a monkey, but later narrated his ordeal.
