A minor boy died and his 17-year- old friend was injured when they lost balance while riding a motorcycle and fell off an under-construction flyover in northwest Delhi's Mukundpur area, where they had gone for a joyride this morning, the police said.

The flyover, under the jurisdiction of the Delhi government's Public Works Department, did not have any signage to indicate that it was out of bounds for the public, they said.

The PWD claimed that the boys were indulging in stunt- biking on the flyover, but they police said they did not find any such proof.

Around 7 am, Karan Dutt (15), a class seven student, after picking up his friend Akash from his house in Mukundpur area, went for a joyride on the under-construction flyover, the police said.

The boys, riding the motorcycle in high speed, lost balance and fell off the flyover. They were rushed to a hospital where Karan was declared brought dead, they said, adding Akash suffered multiple injuries and is undergoing treatment.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Aslam Khan said till now they have not found any evidence of stunt biking and there was no signage or PWD's guard symbol there.

A senior PWD official, however, claimed that the boys were indulging in stunt biking.

"The flyover has not been thrown open for the public. The duo entered the flyover through the exit route. The labourers there said the boys were doing stunts on the motorcycle," the PWD official said.

Karan's family, however, claimed that he was not into stunt biking and had gone for a motorcycle ride with his friend.

Karan's cousin Pankaj they did not realise when he left the two-wheeler.

"It was after a long time that he had taken out the motorcycle. The incident could have been averted had someone seen him taking the motorcycle and stopped him from doing so," Pankaj said.

The police are probing the matter and might also bring charges against the owner of the motorcycle for allowing the minors to ride it.
