A video clip has surfaced on social media in which two Delhi Police personnel, one of them in an inebriated condition, are seen inside their official vehicle after allegedly hitting a motorist, prompting authorities to shunt them.

The video, which was submitted to the police, showed the locals heckling a constable, who was on the driver's seat of the vehicle which allegedly hit the motorist on June 10.

The victim is seen lying on the road while the locals are heckling and abusing the policemen. The locals also "recovered a liquor bottle" and some snacks from the rear side of the vehicle.

However, he did not want to pursue the matter and has not given a complaint yet, the police said, adding despite that action has been initiated against the policemen over the incident.

"Both of them have been sent to district lines and an inquiry has been ordered in the case," a senior police officer said.

Even though a cover of a liquor bottle was found from the car, the medical examination of the policeman, who was driving the vehicle, did not show any signs of alcohol, the officer added.

On the other hand, the officer claimed, the motorist, who was hit by the vehicle, was riding on the wrong lane and rammed into the vehicle.

The victim was also under the influence of alcohol, he added.

The officer said one of the policemen was a "little depressed" since the day the incident occurred was the first death anniversary of his son, who was a sub-inspector.

Police also claimed that the liquor bottle was "planted" inside the official vehicle by some locals who wanted to show police in bad light.
