MOU for Municipal Soil Waste treatment facility

The Odisha government today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Essel Bhubaneswar MSW Ltd for treatment and disposal of municipal solid waste (MSW) generated from the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

"The MSW management facility will be very helpful for the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack," Chief Secretary J K Mohapatra said adding Essel Bhubaneswar MSW Ltd (a consortium of M/s Essel Infraprojects Limited and M/s Rochem Separation Systems (India) Pvt Ltd) would prepare the detailed project report (DPR).

The project would be implemented within two years, he said and about 15 MW of electricity could be generated from the MSW disposal facility. The twin cities together generate approximately 550 tons of MSW daily.
 

The developer would obtain approval from all statutory authorities and achieve financial closure within six months. The project shall be implemented in Design Build Operate and Transfer (DBOT) basis.

Earlier, the housing and urban development department had proposed to develop a Regional MSW Processing and Landfill Facility through Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode over an area of approximately 61.485 acres at Bhuasuni for treating and disposing the MSW collected from the twin cities.
