Banking operations in Madhya Pradesh remained affected Wednesday, the second day of the two-day strike called by central labour unions.

Around 14,000 employees from 5,000 out of the total 7,426 bank branches in the state stayed away from work on Wednesday as well, Madhya Pradesh Bank Employees' Association chairman MK Shukla told PTI.

Except State Bank of India, employees of 20 government banks took part in the shut-down, he added.

The strike hit banking transactions including money deposit and cheque disposal, he said.

Employees staged demonstrations and shouted slogans against the Union government's alleged anti-labourer policies.

They also submitted memorandums addressed to the Union government to the state Labour Commissioner and Indore Divisional Commissioner (revenue).

As many as 10 central trade unions except the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh had given a call for a two-day Bharat Bandh on January 8 and 9.
