The Income Tax department has asked students in Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring Chhattisgarh to give written declarations that they would ensure their parents deposit income tax returns "honestly", a senior official said Friday.
He said the move was a bid to educate students about income tax.
"In a bid to educate students about income tax, our department is obtaining written declaration forms from them in schools across MP and CG that they will ensure their parents honestly deposit income tax returns," Principal Chief Income Tax Commissioner (MP and CG) Ajay Kumar Chouhan told reporters here.
He said 35,000 students have filled the declaration form so far and the target was one lakh.
Chouhan said as part of 159th Income Tax Day celebrations from July 10-25, cleanliness and plantation drives would be carried out in all districts in MP and Chhattisgarh.
"Our officials will plant saplings and take care of them. A cleanliness drive on the ghats of river Narmada would be carried out," he said.
