The first train under the scheme was flagged off by senior BJP leader L K Advani to Rameshwaram on Septmeber 3.
Addressing a function on the occasion, Chouhan announced religious places would be developed through the newly- constituted Teerth and Mela Development Authority.
He said respecting all religions is a priority of his government and therefore, the scheme was launched for the people belonging to all faiths.
Such trains will take senior citizens to 17 religious places in the country including Badrinath, Kedarnath, Rameshwaram, Dwarka, Amritsar, Shrawanabelagola and Vailankanni church.
Chouhan also said his government is also framing schemes to provide mid-day meals to poor older people and foodgrains at Rs two per kilogram to such people.
