A Congress corporator was today awarded ten-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) by a local court for raping a minor girl in January this year.
District Judge S C Rai also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on Ghulam Gous, a corporator from Sehora town near here.
Gous raped the 12-year-old girl on January 13 when she was alone in her house in Sehora, the prosecution said.
The Congress leader was convicted under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and IPC.
In case the convict fails to pay the fine, he will have to undergo one-month additional imprisonment, the prosecution added.
