After addressing a meeting at Barhi town, Singh headed for Bujbuja with the Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Ajay Singh to meet the agitating farmers, who are sitting on unlit funeral pyres ('chita').

Singh assured the farmers that he would take up the issue with the state government.

The protesters said that as many as 78 farmers were not ready to give up their fertile lands.

Singh said Congress will vociferously oppose any attempt to acquire the land forcibly. He demanded enhanced compensation for those who were willing to give away lands.

The Congress leader advised the state government, district administration and Welspun to sort out the issue amicably, and if necessary set up the plant at an alternative place, on barren land.
